In our last magazine issue, we featured Bayfair Shopping Centre on the front cover. The story featured plans for redevelopment and also highlighted Bayfair’s significant stance in the community. Their latest campaign re-enforces that by helping the community where it needs it the most. Bayfair recently invited schools to participate to make three big dreams come true! Dreams such as new music equipment, a sustainable vege patch and new sports uniforms/equipment.

Locals were offered the chance to spend $20 in centre between 27 August and 7 Sept and choose to support the school of their choice. The schools that had the most tokens, received funding to spend on worthwhile initiatives.

Bayfair Centre Manager, Steve Ellingford says “As the hub of our community, we know that our local schools always need a little more support. Initiatives like this are a wonderful way to also thank our community for their loyalty and the support they have given us through our development. It was great to see our customers come together and participate, and to see the different ways each school intends to spend their money.”

And the winners were…

  1. First prize of $5,000 went to Te Kura o Matapihi who plan on using their prize money to go towards new music equipment for tamariki, for their performing arts, drama and plays;
  2. Second prize of $3,000 went to St Thomas More Catholic School who plan on using the money towards their Gardening Club and planting more trees. The school will extend the vege gardens to grow food for the local Foodbank, and teach the children about sustainability and helping those in need in the community;
  3. Last but not least, $1,000 went to Arataki School who plan on spending the money on new sports uniforms and sports equipment.

Tuie Rolleston, Principle of Te Kura o Matapihi says “Our Kura was excited to have the opportunity to participate in the School Rewards campaign. Our families and community got right in behind us collecting the tokens, every day we had parents posting on our school Facebook page with pictures of their children depositing tokens. All the team work paid off, and we are now looking forward to using the prize money to purchase new music equipment. Ka nui te mihi ki a Bayfair for the opportunity.”
