Runaway Bay Centre has cemented its place as the Gold Coast’s go-to destination for fresh produce and speciality ingredients with the opening of its new fresh food precinct.

Situated on the beautiful waterways of northern Gold Coast, Runaway Bay Centre is undergoing a modern makeover giving customers a new alfresco casual dining precinct and fresh food precinct, powered with the aid of a new 1.3MW rooftop solar energy system.

Runaway Bay welcomes Queensland’s largest gourmet butcher, Steak Kings to its new fresh food precinct

Featuring a number of high-quality artisan food retailers, including Queensland’s largest gourmet butcher, Steak Kings, the new precinct will soon welcome Broadwater Market, along with coastal-inspired furniture, new flooring and ambient lighting.

Runaway Bay Centre Manager, Sharon Gambrill said, “Our new fresh food precinct is all about giving customers more convenience, choice and variety under one roof, with fresh produce and specialty ingredients retailers, complementing major supermarkets, ALDI, Coles and Woolworths”.

This latest upgrade to one of Australia’s most picturesque retail destinations is just the first stage of a $13.7 million development, which will soon see a new alfresco casual dining precinct right on the water’s edge.

When completed in Spring this year, the new casual dining precinct will be the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely lunch, brunch or coffee with friends on the deck, during the week and on weekends.

“Dining on the canal’s edge with unbeatable views overlooking the water capitalises on Runaway Bay’s unique location and aspect and this new precinct will be a convenient and picturesque meeting place for the local community,” said Gambrill.

Runaway Bay is one of the only shopping centres in Australia where customers can arrive by boat with mooring available on the canal, and the new deck area with direct access to the centre will take full advantage of this.

“Our makeover is an exciting new chapter for Runaway Bay, and we’re excited to see the locals and visitors already enjoying our evolving, thriving centre,” said Gambrill

These stunning additions to Runaway Bay will also be eco-friendly, powered with the help of the centre’s new state-of-the-art 1.3MW solar energy system, switched on in April this year.

The system is part of Vicinity Centres’ $75 million-dollar, industry-leading solar program, which launched in 2018 and committed to installing solar across 22 shopping centres, generating over 48,500 MWh of clean energy each year – enough to power more than 8,300 homes – one of the largest programs of its kind in Australia.
