On Thursday 3rd of August, global sportswear giant JD Sports officially opened its Australian flagship store at MidCity Shopping Centre, bringing a huge range of iconic brands to Sydney’s Pitt St Mall.
The ‘Undisputed King of Trainers’ unveiled the brand’s first global flagship store in the Australian and New Zealand region, introducing an elevated retail experience in line with other global cities such as New York, London and Berlin.
Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, the space is JD Sports’ 54th store in the region, which made its first entry into the Australian market in 2017 and has expanded its footprint across Australia and New Zealand.
Spread across two floors, the Pitt St Mall JD Sports flagship offers a huge range of adult footwear and apparel, as well as dedicated kids ranges to cater to the entire family, with hundreds of JD Sports exclusive styles and colourways that shoppers won’t find anywhere else.
The retailer is MidCity’s 19th store to the centre, with Renaud Herington, Senior Asset Manager at Fortius Growthpoint expressing their excitement to welcome a store of this calibre to the precinct to further elevate the shopping experience.
“We worked with the JD Sports team to effectively create a ‘super store’, so we are thrilled to see it come to life and have no doubt shoppers are going to love having the sports fashion giant call MidCity home,” Herington said.
“To welcome a world-class store experience and partner with JD Sports is a powerful statement for both MidCity and Sydney as a shopping destination.”
Head of JD Sports APAC, Hilton Seskin said MidCity Shopping Centre in the heart of Pitt Street Mall was the perfect choice when the brand was looking for the best location to house its Sydney flagship store.
“This store is the expression of the global JD Sports flagship store format that brings the retail theatre from the likes of New York’s Times Square, London’s Oxford Street and Berlin’s Alexa.”
“With MidCity being such a premium location for us, it called for elevated retail design elements, the latest in-store digital displays as well as market-first brand partner executions to round out the experience,” said Seskin.
To celebrate the store opening, the brand collaborated with Nike to create a pop-up activation space on Pitt Street Mall, hosting the ‘Nike Air Max 1 Workshop’ from Thursday 3 August to Sunday 6 August, where shoppers will have the chance to create custom designs for the ultimate expression of creativity, with access to colours a week early.
In addition to this, the ‘King of Trainers’ will be turning into the ‘King of Gifts’ with a pop-stand in front of the MidCity Centre, where eligible shoppers will be able to get their hands on a range of free gifts with purchase and more from Thursday through to Sunday.
