Australia’s largest Outlet Shopping Centre, Harbour Town Premium Outlets Gold Coast has reached a major milestone, hitting $500 million in annual retail sales for the first time in its 23-year history.
More than nine million shoppers visited the centre in the 12 months to September 2022, closing in on record pre-COVID foot traffic levels. As international tourists began returning to the Gold Coast, locals and domestic tourists were spending record amounts at the outlet mecca.
Lewis Land Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Matthew McCarron said demand for outlet, from both customers and retailers is strong.
“We are seeing significant interest from customers at two ends of the spectrum. Not only are premium products in high demand, but pressures on cost of living are driving an increase in everyday store purchases. Value is what customers are seeking, and Harbour Town has plenty of it,” says McCarron.
“Over the past 18 months, there has been a focus on remixing the retail offer, with 21 new stores opening and expansion of eight existing stores. Strong demand for bricks and mortar shopping is driving tenant interest, and as international tourists return, we expect to see even stronger demand.”
Harbour Town Premium Outlets Gold Coast is Australia’s first and largest outdoor, outlet shopping centre, with more than 220 stores across 55,000m2.
Opening in 1999, the centre rebranded to Harbour Town Premium Outlets following the opening of a slew of premium retailers, and alfresco dining destination, Harbour Town Eats.
Co-owners Lewis Land Group and Vicinity Centres are delighted with the Centre’s performance since their partnership began in 2021.
Vicinity Centres’ Director, Property Management, Kirrily Lord said “We’re proud of the Harbour Town team for achieving this fantastic milestone and supporting our retail partners to connect with more and more customers.”
“Harbour Town is located in an attractive trade area and it’s great to see the growth reflect this.
