Future residents and visitors to high growth area Tarneit will soon enjoy nationally recognised retail offerings in the new town centre – The Sheds Tarneit, after the City of Wyndham approved developer Goldfields’ planning application.

Located within the City of Wyndham, one of Victoria’s strongest urban growth areas, the $100 million, 4.7ha development is strategically positioned on the corner of Tarneit Road and Kenning Road and will be anchored by a full-line 3,473m2 Coles supermarket with a Liquorland store and fast-food retailer McDonald’s.

The 13,100m2 town centre is set to open in late-2024 and will also feature a diverse range of speciality food stores, hospitality venues, a childcare centre, a medical facility and a fuel station. It is also expected to generate significant local employment opportunities.

Lachlan Thompson, CEO of Goldfields, said, “Melbourne’s western corridor is one of the fastest-growing regions in Australia and the population of the City of Wyndham is expected to expand to 423,000 by 2033,”

“The Sheds is perfectly positioned to offer future residents of Tarneit easy shopping options, national brands, local jobs and a central hub for the community. The fact that we’ve already secured two major national brands as anchor tenants shows the market shares our confidence in this much needed offering that will support the growth of Tarneit in years to come,” said Thompson.

Laura Marriot-Smith, Head of Property (VIC) at McDonald’s Australia, said: “We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with Goldfields at The Sheds project in Tarneit North and are excited to expand our offering in Melbourne’s rapidly expanding western corridor, one of the fastest growing communities in the country.”

Construction at The Sheds Tarneit will commence in mid-2023

Wyndham is one of the largest municipalities in Australia, with an estimated population of 316,048 in 2022. By 2041, this is expected to grow to 512,591 people – a 62.19% increase. The City of Wyndham includes large areas of land designated for residential housing.

“The Sheds Tarneit is designed to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding suburb, with nearly 3,000 new lots scheduled to be delivered in the area immediately surrounding the new town centre,” said Steve Fein, Leasing Agent from Teska Carson.

“Future residents will also benefit from significant government investment in local amenities throughout Wyndham, including six new schools, local road upgrades and state-of-the-art sporting infrastructure.”

“To date, we have received high levels of interest from national retailers who are eager to join the centre having identified the exciting potential of this up-and-coming suburb which is reflected in the fact that 45% of the town centre has been committed to prior to construction commencing,” said Fein.
