Queensland’s CastleTown remains open for business as construction commences on the centre’s $34 million redevelopment that will deliver a new Coles supermarket and specialty retailers, new entry statement, upgraded car parking, improved facilities and a revitalised Playtown.
CEO, Gary McConaghy, said it is the fourth major investment to be undertaken at CastleTown in 31 years by long-term owner McConaghy Properties, which purchased the centre in 1989.

“This is a significant milestone for our close-knit community of retailers and customers,” McConaghy said. “The arrival of Coles, together with a refreshed format, new retailers and improved facilities, will position CastleTown as the local shopping centre of choice for the everyday needs of our local community.

“We’re also delivering on our commitment to contribute to economic growth, investment and job creation, and our leasing team is actively in the market speaking with leading local and national brands about the exciting opportunities that lie ahead,” he said. “In the meantime, CastleTown continues to trade as normal, and all car parks remain open.”
McConaghy said the redevelopment includes a centre-wide facelift and improved access that will ensure all retailers benefit from the vibrant new design aesthetic. Construction is due for completion in March 2022.
Centre Manager, Kathy Langsford, said the entry to the Woolcock Street basement car park (near Big W) has been temporarily changed to facilitate construction and contractor access, and directional signage has been placed throughout the car parks to minimise disruption to customers.

“We remain open for trade seven days a week throughout the redevelopment,” Langsford said. “CastleTown continues to offer the ultimate everyday experience under one roof. Playtown remains open alongside favourite brands including Big W, Woolworths, Adairs, Witchery, Lorna Jane and Cotton On.

“We’ll also be rolling out a series of fun, interactive experiences and look forward to announcing these in the months ahead,” she said. “From our fresh food offer at Kings Road Market to our fashion, homewares and kids apparel ranges, there’s something for everyone.”
Up to 150 jobs will be created throughout the 11-month construction program, and an estimated 100 new jobs within the centre once works are completed.
