The much-anticipated Coles-anchored neighbourhood shopping centre at the heart of the $1 billion future Armstrong Creek officially opens its doors today. The project located in the fastest growing area in Victoria, 7km south-west of the Geelong CBD was developed by Melbourne-based developer Wel.Co, which has a strong investment within the Geelong region through its residential homes division.

The Armstrong Creek Town Centre will be the civic, commercial and social heart of Armstrong Creek. Stage 1 of the development, comprises of a Coles supermarket and Liquorland, along with supporting specialty retail.

Andrew Welsh of Wel.Co said: “Through the planning and design phase we made a conscious effort of drawing inspiration from the local area so the local community felt a real sense of belonging to the town centre.”

The centre offers a sustainable and vibrant place for the community to shop, live, work and play. The new shopping precinct will provide the local community and visitors with a vibrant food and dining experience.

“The town centre will employ more than 5,000 people from the local area over the life of the development which is really exciting for the ever growing Armstrong Creek community.” said Welsh.

The centre will be home to the only full-line Coles supermarket in the primary trade area on a new 15-year lease. Liquorland, Overtime Espresso, TerryWhite Chemmart, Newsagent, Beauty Genesis and Coral Massage are all open and trading.

Anytime Fitness, Salon 7 Hair, Cignall, Bakers Delight, Sandpiper Restaurant, ‘Salt & Battered’ Fish and Chips, Sushi and Dumpling Hub are expected to open soon, with Dan Murphy’s, KFC and Hungry Jack’s opening Q1 2021.

Colliers International’s Adam Lester is managing the leasing with only a couple spots left. More than 30 specialty retailers will support the massive population growth forecast for the area over the next 15 years.

The centre adjoins the future Armstrong Creek Train Station, recently announced by the State Government as part of $160 million commitment to expand the train line to accommodate the booming population growth. The future train line will provide direct access to Geelong and the Melbourne CBD.

Stage 1 will initially service approximately 58,000 people, with the suburb set to rapidly increase to more than 110,000 residents by 2036.

The masterplanned retail, commercial and residential community is surrounded by housing estates from developers including Dennis Family Corporation and Villawood Properties.
